Student Instructions
Directions: Write multiplication (or addition, subtraction, or division) problems on slips of paper or notecards. You may wish to focus on a specific multiplication table to suit the needs of your students. On some of the slips of paper write the word KABOOM. I generally write three KABOOM papers for each time table, i.e. 12 products: 3 KABOOM. The slips of paper are then placed in a container so that they can be picked out randomly. The students take turns to pick a multiplication problem. If the student answers the problem correctly, they keep the paper. A calculator can be used to check their answers. If they are incorrect, they return the paper to the container. If a student picks a KABOOM paper, all their slips of paper have to be returned into the container. The game can be played continuously until stopped. Because of the KABOOM slips, every player loses their slips throughout the game. Players also find it fun to see who can collect the most slips before getting a KABOOM. You may also watch the video to learn how to play.
