Grades: 5th Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade
Subjects: Math

Student Instructions

1: Design a shape using pattern blocks 2: Take a photo of your design 3: Find and label the fraction that each style of pattern block represents (see example) *Bonus* label an equivalent fraction for one of the shapes. Then, use the mic or caption to explain how you know. (Your explanation should include that shapes relationship with another shape)

Teacher Notes (not visible to students)

This idea is based off fractiontalks.com and it is recommended students have practice with that before doing this activity. The idea of the bonus is to not only get them to identify equivalent fractions, but to also explain how equivalency works without just doing the mathematical process. (An example may be that they know a trapezoid is equal to 3 triangles and therefore...)
