[SPEAKING] Risks for health

Grades: 8th Grade, 9th Grade, 7th Grade
Subjects: Multilingual Learners, Health, Character Building

Student Instructions

The teacher elicits students’ opinions about risks for health and organizes the students’ answers in a mind map that is written down on the board. Students will most likely mention answer tobacco, alcohol, drugs, traffic accidents or an unhealthy diet as the main dangers for people’s health nowadays. The teacher may want to tease them by saying they forgot one very important issue that needs to be taken care of if we want to be safe and healthy. The teacher may use a spider web type of mind map in order to classify the students’ opinions. Some specific vocabulary items are introduced before getting into the reading task: research /rɪˈsɜːtʃ/, isolation /ˌaɪsəʊˈleɪʃən/.
