Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
The idea for this experiment came from Sid the Science Kid: The Big Sneeze (Season 1, Episode 18) https://youtu.be/n6DuZjePTXs Have students cover their hands in dirt (their germs). Students examine their hands and document the amount of “germs” on their hands. First students wipe their hands with paper towels, examine the amount of “germs” left, then document. Repeat with just water. Finish with soap and water. Talk about the difference in amount of “germs” based on how hands were cleaned. Talk about the importance of washing with soap and water to get rid of the germs they can’t see. ST3.16 Makes a prediction when prompted ST5.16 Uses more detailed drawing, writing, models, or creative expressions to present ideas ST6.8 Compares findings to predictions or expected results
