Students are learning to identify qualities of effective leadership and communicate these qualities through an Italian-inspired portrait. Students will create a portrait of a leader using collage materials. Instead of simply drawing a face, students will construct the portrait from images, symbols, patterns, words and objects that represent leadership qualities. Mentor artwork example: Vertumnus by Giuseppe Arcimboldo. The face and body are constructed entirely from an array of fruits, vegetables, and flowers gathered from all four seasons (such as apples, pears, cherries, corn, and gourds). This symbolises that the entire cycle of nature and time is harmoniously united under the emperor’s rule.
