Grades: Kindergarten, PK-TK
Subjects: English Language Arts, Special Education, Math

Student Instructions

1. Click on the add button. 2. Choose a shape and say it's name and color. 3. Use the eraser tool to erase the shape. 4. Say the name of the animal underneath and use the move tool to put it by it's mother. 5. Repeat for each of the shapes. 6. Click the green check to add this activity to your journal. Simplify: * Before having your child erase, ask them to point to the shapes and/or the colors as you name them. They will still be showing their knowledge and recognition, but will not have to come up with the language yet. * Don't worry about having your child use the correct name for the baby (puppy) as long as they can identify the animal (dog). * Choose one skill to focus on. Have your child name colors, or shapes, or animal names, but not all three. Extend: * Have your child use the correct names for the baby animals (kitten, duckling, etc.) AND name the animals they go with (cat, duck, etc.) * Have your child tell you two things about each type of animal. ("Horses have long tails, can be ridden, have manes, have 4 legs," etc.) * Have your child tell you what their favorite farm animal is and why. Learning Opportunities: ELA 3 yr.1.2: Begin to understand and use nouns, verbs, prepositions, and pronouns. ELA 3 yr.1.3: Begin to ask and answer simple questions (for example, who, what, where). "Who does this baby belong to?" or "Where does the duck live?" ELA 4 yr.1.4: Describe attributes of familiar people, places, things, and events. "That pig is pink and has a curly tail." ELA 4 yr.1.5: Use and talk about new vocabulary through rich texts, projects, guided conversation, and play. ELA 3 yr.1.8: With prompting and support, engage in conversations with peers and adults. FA 3 yr.4.2: Recognize basic colors. FA 4 yr.4.2: Recognize and name colors. Math 3 yr.4.1: Match, point to, and begin to identify basic shapes by name. Math 4 yr.4.2: Identify and name basic shapes regardless of their size and/or orientation (the way the object is turned or flipped).
