Student Instructions
Use the rectangle to model how to multiply fractions with the "brownie" strategy:
1. Use the lines provided to divide the rectangle vertically into equal parts that match the denominator of the first fraction.
2. Look at the numerator of the first fradction to color in the appropriate amount of columns with the tool.
3. Divide the rectangle horizontally into equal parts that match the denominator of second fraction being multiplied.
4. Look at the numerator of the second fraction to mark the appropriate amount of rows with the shape provided.
5. Count up the boxes that are both colored AND contain a shape. That is the numerator of your product.
6. Count up the total number of boxes. That is your denominator of your product.
On SLIDE 5:
1. Make up your own problem and solve it with the brownie strategy.
2. Add a story to go with your problem.
