View the work of art or music your teacher has assigned. Add 2 or more responses for each prompt.
This is modeled off the Critical Response Protocol from the Perpich Arts Center. It was originally created by choreographer Liz Lerman. These four questions allow students to approach and engage with a work without getting stuck in the cycle of "I liked it/didn't like it but I don't know why." After students have responded individually, allow them to share some responses out loud with the class. You will have a deep, engaging discussion about a work and not a single student will say "I didn't like it"!
