Student Instructions
Many of us are not use to being at home all day and setting up a home learning space! With a few simple steps, we can get ready to learn, grow together, and have fun. 1. ⏰ Think of when your learning time will start and end. Write those times down on a piece of paper. 2. 📚 Think of each subject you need to cover - remember to have time for reading, math, writing, science/design, curiosity projects and lots of time for movement and brain breaks. 3. 🗣Have a discussion as a family about anything you need to remember to have scheduled each day. Make sure to add time for family games, reading together, chores etc. 4. ✏️ Write down your first attempt at your schedule from beginning of the day when you wake up until bedtime (check out the attachment for more information). 5. Tap the add button 6. Tap the camera to take a photo of the schedule 7. Tap the mic to explain how you came up with the schedule and what you are most excited to try! 8. Tap the check to save Family Why: Routines help children focus, know what to expect and feel safe. I have attached additional information on the importance of routines and children's attentions spans on the second page. Make sure to build in lots of time for movement, curiosity, brain breaks and family time.
The current situation makes it more important than ever to surround students with caring relationships, positive experiences and routines. These are all important factors in helping students navigate stress and trauma. Learning at home is different. It requires a powerful partnership between teachers, families and students. Focus on relationships, emotional health, and encourage families to find learning moments in their daily routines that will extend the class learning you are providing.
