Today we will continue discussing Theme. 'Theme' is a lesson or message that you take from a story and apply to your own life. Theme is a universal message that applies to everyone. Theme is neither the main idea of a piece of writing nor a summary. It does not include any character names in the sentence. NOTE: A list of common theme topics has been included in this activity. Directions: 1. Click to watch the teaching video that goes along with this lesson. 2. Click to add the template to your canvas. 3. Carefully review the list of Big Questions on the first page. Answer each question in the gray boxes. The responses have already been started for you. 4. Rewatch the video 'The Girl and the Fox' to look for more details or think more deeply about the story. 5. Use the tool to complete the graphic organizer. Add your theme sentence and then provide text evidence to support your thinking. Check out page 3 to review common theme topics. 6. Check your work! 7.
