Simplify: * This is a comprehension activity. The Utah core standards suggest that 3-yr.-olds work on listening attentively. * Offer as much support as needed by skipping the sequencing, reading the story as they sequence or reminding them what to put next. * Help hand-over-hand if necessary. Extend: * Explain to your child that there are many words that mean sleeping or tired like napping, dozing, snoozing, drowsy etc. See how many of them you can find together in the story. * Ask comprehension questions like, "Why do you think they took naps?" (Because it was raining and they were bored? Maybe they stayed up too late last night? etc.) Or, "What do you think they did when the sun came back out?" Just see what they can come up with. * Ask your child what they do differently when they go to bed vs. when they nap. (bath, brush teeth, put on pajamas, listen to a story etc.) Learning Opportunities: ELA 3 yr.2.17: With prompting and support, listen attentively to simple texts.
