Student Instructions
The National Association of the Deaf has chosen April 1-30 as the National Deaf History Month (NDHM). NDHM celebrates and recognizes all Deaf People in the United States. Today we learn about some of the key events that have impacted the Deaf community. 1. Click to begin your lesson. 2. On Pages 1-6, learn about some key people, places, & events in the Deaf community. 🧠 3. On Page 7, sort the pictures to decide if they are accessible. Then, record yourself explaining your reasoning. 4. On Page 8, take some time to reflect on your own school! 🏫 5. On Page 9, find a BONUS where you can learn to spell your name using American Sign Language (ASL). 6. Remember to click to publish your work!
We encourage teachers to review key ideas in an interactive, collaborative way with the entire class as much as possible. Consider extending the sorting activity on Page 7 to a class discussion to investigate how some things may include some and exclude others. Students can also be encouraged to add in their own ideas as well.
