1. Click

2. On page one use the 
tool to answer some questions about Owl Pellets (feel free to do some research).
3. On page two and three, drag and drop the labels to the correct place to label the bones. Use the chart to help you.
4. On page 4 you will need to identify and label a jawbone, ribs, hipbone and a skull yourself. Use the 
to draw a circle around the bones, then the using the 
shapes tool to draw a line and tools to add words.
5. Don't forget to answer the question at the bottom of page 4!

The video linked to is: 'What are Owl Pellets?' by Sci Show Kids. It was linked in June 2020. This activity was designed for Year 5 students in the UK who missed their residential trip due to lockdown. It was used as a stand alone activity but could be set following an actual owl pellet dissection. This lesson fits nicely with work on food chains, food webs and feeding relationships. Answers to page 1: 1. an owl 2. they are not poo, in a way they are vomit: regurgitated remains of what the owl ate but cannot digest 3. regurgitated bones, fur and/or feathers from the animals an owl eats 4. scientists use these to study the population of the owls prey: are they eating more field mice or shrews? Are there any dormice in the area? Are there a lot of rats in this owl's hunting zone?
