Teacher Notes (not visible to students)
See junewriters.com/teachers for other resources to help you teach comma placement and other grammar, punctuation, and editing conventions. Writing conventions practiced in this assignment: • If your sentence has a series or list consisting of three or more words, separate the elements with commas. Use a comma before the conjunction that introduces the last item. • The final comma in this series--the one before the conjunction--is called a serial comma or an Oxford comma and is a source of heated debate among adults. -It’s fine to write sentences with or without the Oxford comma. Both of the sentences above work fine without the Oxford comma; the meaning is clear. -However, keep in mind that omitting the Oxford comma can sometimes have a big impact on the meaning of your sentence.
